That's strange...I had no problems running the disk... even after a fresh, completely unmodified wine install. Anyway, has anyone had any luck with the newest update? (or any update for that matter...) I've tried with wine and cedega and they both output errors... Thanks for any help.
im having the same problem, but im using unbuntu..... iv'e tried over and reburned the cd, tried other blizzard cds like diablo and it installs perfectly but cant read the cd when i click play starcraft/diablo can some 1 please help?
I had the same problem. I am running Suse 9.3 I finally got SC to run via wine.
First I installed the game off the cd using wine:
wine install.exe
The install occured without any errors. But when trying to start the game it gave me the cdrom error... and I didn't want to use a nocd, thats giving up. So here is what I did.
I needed to tell wine what the heck is up with my cdrom,. in the config file there was nothing in regards to the cdrom. So I mounted the cdrom w/Starcraft in the drive and edited my /.wine/config file to point to the cdrom, started the game and it worked. Victory.
Login as root:
Create a folder /cdrom on /
And mount your cdrom with Starcraft cd in the drive.
mount /dev/cdrom /cdrom
(I didn't mess w/file system ISO9660 stuff)
Go edit your /.wine/config file with your favorite editor. And add something like this. I put mine right below # [wineconf]
Distribution: Ubuntu, I have tried Debian Sarge 3.1r0a and Fedora Core 2.

I was having the same problem using version 20050310 (from apt-get). I finally got it to work though.
In the .wine folder where winesetup made a fake windows file system is a folder called dosdevices. In this folder are some links for a, c, d and z drives. 'd:' was linked to /dev/hdc. So I renamed it (never get rid of stuff till you know you don't need it) and made a new link:
d: -> /mnt/cdrom
Works but slow! 'Course I am working with a Celeron 366! X barely works!
