Warcraft III on Wine
I recently bought Wine Rack 3.2, hoping to play some of my Windows games on my Linux computer. I tried to install Warcraft III and it installed, but I can't start the program. I've fiddled around w/ the configuration and stuff, but I can't seem to get it to work. If any of you out there know what I'm talking about and know how to fix it please tell me how!

are you using regular wine or winex? either way, try this:
go fetch a nocd-crack
wine -- "War3.exe" -opengl

check out transgaming
I'm a paying member of transgaming ( http://www.transgaming.com) and if my memory serves me right warcraft 3 is officially supported by them. Check out there website and see what they have to offer. There service isn't expensive, $5 bucks a month and you really get what you pay for.
I have a great time playing warcraft 3 and the frozen throne expansion using winex 3.2 and it runs perfect for me. This is coming from personal experience.

Yeah, don't try wineX 3.3 on it though. It crashes on custom maps when you join the game. For War3 stick with wineX 3.2 or 3.2.1 from what I can see.

Oh, so you have to pay them $5 every month for it to actually work?

1) Make sure you're using a no-CD crack
2) rename the Movies directory to something else like Movies_DISABLED, for some reason it froze on the intro movie for me, this may fix your problem... it fixed mine
3) run it with "wine War3.exe -- -opengl" otherwise it'll be sloooooooooooow

Yes, I'm using that instruction to run it. How do I know if my hardware 3d is enabled?
