Steam Can't connect/stay connected to VAC servers

Greetings,

I have googled and read many forums but can't find an answer, so was hoping to get guidance here.

I am Running Slackware Linux 12.2 with WINE to play CS:S and DOD:S.

Connecting to CS:S VAC servers results in "Disconnect: Client timed out" after 30 seconds.

The sytanx I use to start CS:S is:

bash-3.1$ wine /home/MYHOMEDIRECTORY/.wine/drive_c/Steam/steamapps/MYGAMENAME/counter-strike\ source/hl2.exe -game cstrike

I only time out when connecting to VAC servers, non-VAC is not an issue.

The sytax:

Steam\steam.exe" -applaunch 240
Starts to load the game, then closes sans any error message, just closes.

When I try to join a DOD:S server I immediately recieve a:
Steam Validation rejected message.

Same terminal syntax except DOD directories running the hl2.exe with -game dod

I do have a windows machine with my games loaded, but would like to use linux to play, since I know it is possible.

I have seen no difference in game play using linux.
But my clan is on a VAC server.

I was told to check my "firewall". Not sure what is meant by that? xhost, hosts.allow, ipforwarding??? I don't want to start messing with security settings if it's not required.

Any help will be appreciated.

Regards,

What wine version are you using? I know with the latest version you can install Steam under wine and run all your games almost the same as under Windows.
