Quake 3 freezes (possible permission-problem)

When I try to run quake 3 as a user it first works, but can suddenly hang, so I must press the reset-key on the computer. It usually runs well, but it almost always hang when I try to quit the game (I see my start menu, and background, no icons, but it hangs there)

When playing as root it works, and I have changed the permissions on dsp, so I just wondered what else should be changed

use "ulimit -a" to check for possible resource limits on your user account.

games tend to use up lots of CPU/RAM - and if that's restricted you may need to remove the limits.

Can't see any CPU/RAM restrictions here...

core file size (blocks, -c) 0
data seg size (kbytes, -d) unlimited
file size (blocks, -f) unlimited
max locked memory (kbytes, -l) unlimited
max memory size (kbytes, -m) unlimited
open files (-n) 1024
pipe size (512 bytes, -p) 8
stack size (kbytes, -s) unlimited
cpu time (seconds, -t) unlimited
max user processes (-u) 5119
virtual memory (kbytes, -v) unlimited

OK, I just installed GNOME and quake 3 works. But it should not be that big difference, since I'm running both on KDM...

Strange...

It's KDE 3.4 (same problem on KDE 3.3), and GNOME 2.6

I doesn't even use the screensaver, only the power management.
