PunkBuster and RTCW

Hi everyone.. i recently just updated my RTCW to version 1.41 which includes punkbuster. And as most of you probably know, more and more servers are using punkbuster to stop cheaters. That's where my problem is. I try to enable punkbuster in the RTCW preferences.. but it wont enable.. and I cant connect to any servers that are using PB(which is most of them). Has anyone here had a problem with enabling PunkBuster in RTCW??

thanx

Hi!!!

I haven't this problem, but you can activate it editing your ./wolf/main/wolfconfig_mp.cfg and set 1 to punkbuster.
This should work

Hope it helps

It is not the directory where you installed the game, it is /home/username/.wolf/main/wolfconfig_mp.cfg (notice the dot before wolf directory)

Hope it helps

Try pulling down the console with the ~ key (left of the 1) and type /PB_CL_ENABLE. And then restart RTCW.

oops, I mean to type CL instead op SV...

i had a similar problem, though a little different. you can try to join a server that has pb enabled. it will tell you that you cannot connect. while it is doing this, drop down your console, and do /pb_enable (something like this... it is NOT /pb_SV_ENABLE because that is only an option if you are running a server!)

once you enable it, you can writeconfig to write a new config file with that setting enabled, so the next time, it should be good to go!

Heyas
I'm having the same problem as most people here, but none of the offered fixes are working. I've done pb_cl_enable, pb_enable when at the server join screen then restarted, stuck seta punkbuster "1", seta cl_punkbuster "1" in my wolfconfig_mp.cfg. Nothing.. The stupid thing is, I've had it running with punkbuster enabled right after I installed the 1.41 patch (and hit the start button on the updater screen). Once I quit from that session, I couldnt get it to run again.

Oh and this happens both in my normal account and when I run rtcw as root.

edit: oh and I just noticed, no matter WHAT I do, I cant set cl_punkbuster "1", even from the consol. It keeps telling me that cl_punkbuster is read only. Even trying to force it in through the cl (with wolfmp +cl_punkbuster 1) doesnt work..

Try updating PB manually using pbweb.x86, you can download it here:

OK, fixed it. I just deleted the pb directory in fs_homepath (the /home/username/.wolf/pb/ directory) and then did pb_cl_update in console and it now works.... feh.

Well, deleting the pb folder and having it update everything itself is only a temporary fix.. after what appears to be after a random amount of time, punkbuster will just up and disable itself. I'll be in the middle of a game and after 3 or 4 hours of play get booted saying that I need to update pb (which I have done several, several, several, several, SEVERAL times). When I go back into the game browser right after the crash, punk buster will be back to its 'I'm disabled and I wont let you enable me by pushing the button that says enable punkbuster'... arg

So I'm still fighting with this thing. The only thing I can think of now is that pb doesnt like the fact that rtcw is on a different drive (an old windows drive, vfat). The drive has just defaults with dmask umask and fmask all set to 000 (oh and dump and fsck set to 0 as well). Have I screwd up mounting my rtcw drive which is pissing off pb?

Its not because it is on another drive. I don't play RTCW:ET much, but the problem is with pbweb.x86. I have been trying to update my Quake3 Punkbuster and it keeps giving me a segmentation fault.. I also emailed the punkbuster support and I got a pretty speedy reply stating that.
pbweb is the way to go to update for linux, and the only way i've ever gotten it to update correctly and stay updated.

This is the reply I got from the email I sent PB.

Hello,

This is a known linux bug and we hope to have it adressed in a future update.

Hopefully PB will update the pbweb.x86 for us linux users that way I can play again in linux. Manual update does not work for me.
Good Luck.

I wish the pb guys could maybe work on the segfault soon/faster considering i can't play at all online in linux. Windows I can, but I like running linux better runs so much smoother
