Word is that the PS3 will run linux. Does this mean linux on the pc will run more games natively, namely the ones released for ps3? What are the implications?
I never buy PS before, but going to buy PS3 to support linux.
*But due to I have a no pirated software policy, maybe need to spend much money for games.
Surely it would be a short step to compile them for x86. If the PS3 games are developed with linux compatibility in mind already for the console, then it would be easier and more cost-effective to release PC version for Linux desktop than Windows.
Yeah, all we have to do is actually convince them to compile the program for x86. And I'm willing to bet Sony is paying them a whole bunch to keep some games exclusive to the PS3...
I don't want to buy a PS3 though, it is far too expensive for me.
if I not mistaken the sony 3 just like OS and come with harddrive. So, it is worth for a OS can play so much of game at the same time support majority of application like firefox, printing, office, server and etc. And the processor is much better can give us better performance. Just I hope we don't lost the freedom.
Distribution: K/Ubuntu 18.04-14.04, Scientific Linux 6.3-6.4, Android-x86, Pretty much all distros at one point...

The cell is a whole order of magnitude faster than an x86 processor at certain tasks... So a simple recompile for a Linux x86 box is unlikely to yield usable games...
The linux part of the ps3 is what I've heard only for the computer part of the ps3 (as sony says, ps3 is not an gaming-device, it can replace your home computer).
Guess that it as the other consoles boots straight into game and not going past a os, the game itself is the os. And don't think they will develop the games on a linux-base
hopefully don't work in this way because I'll lost my dream.
I hope this:-
I can play RPG game at the same time browse internet(Maybe seach some user manual, guide). And I can capture the game screen too... download file from internet and play game can be perform at the same time too... Watching TV, listening radio, webconference with game at the same time.
What for if PS3 using linux if it always need to reboot.
Ks
too bad.. however, anybody tried ps3? how it feel?
Not hands on experiance yet, but my friend who stod in line outside the gameshop in tokyo said, "It's like the ps2, but with little better graphics, which I don't really care about"
Asked him about the controller which has the tilt function, he said
"Feels a little bit wierd, but maybe that's because the Wii's controller really uses the function to the maximum"
