I think WineX offers a much better support for DirectX, and is much better for gaming. Wine should be used for "normal" applications, I was able to run Starcraft with it, though (only uses DirectDraw). But it runs better with WineX.

Does WineX have DirextX 9 support? I just got Max Payne 2 but it says I will need DirectX 9 support to play the game. I stopped the installation until I get feedback from people here.

Check the site to see if max payne 2 is supported, if it isn't, it likely will soon be.

Nopes,

wine has lots of directx support. Runs games almost as well as winex.
Many games put down that they require the newest version to look 'cool' but truly they don't.
I think max payne 2 is the same way.

The real difference is in support that you get. A lot more from winex then from wine. You also get a neater way of installing and keeping track of games (point2play), and it has support for copyright protection systems. You currently need a crack to run the games in wine (mostly anyway), not so with many winex games.
On the bright side cracks = no cd, so it's perfect I hate having to keep my cd busy.
And.. actually winex runs lots of applications quite well. Transgaming noticed this and they announced they want to release a version of winex for apps a month ago or so.

Max Payne works perfectly, but I have no clue about version 2.
If you bought the winex version you can send an email to the Transgaming support and ask them.
