But, you'll have to do that every time the system boots, so add that command above to local.start. That worked for me.
Now, to see if that really is the problem, start ET in a console and check the output. If the problem is permissions, it will say that "cannot open /dev/dsp - permission denied" ...or something like that.
Its the same problem with Return to Castle Wolfenstien, and Quake 3. There realy only a few workarounds, but only for a certain card, and another that is prone to crashing all the time. If you have a VIA chipset, with AC'97 audio then your in luck, if not, then go get yourself a Creative card.
Doesent work just says command not found. But if I enter the command like this (which works but still no sound) et artsdsp -m . This is what I get when I start it in the terminal
------- sound initialization -------
/dev/dsp: Input/output error
Could not mmap /dev/dsp
Sorry I was incorrect about it being ac97 and all its actually a VIA Rhine 823x rev60. So does this mean I have to get a creative card? My dad has one I think I will put it in now. So what do I do to change my sound from via rhine to creative sound blaster?
ok After a fresh instalation of 10.1 i had the same problemz with sound and et.
what i did is:
#kcontrol
--->sound--->sound system
tick the box labeled enable the sound system
and then apply
after that
artsdsp -m et should work.
Hope this helpz
This solved the problem with me as far as being able to get sound in enemy territory but the thing is, the sound lags for about a second when playing (the sound of shots being fired at me comes a second late...) and anyone who has played enemy territory can see how that would be a problem...
Any solotions for this?
"cat /proc/asound/cards" gives this result:
0 [CK804 ]: NFORCE - NVidia CK804
NVidia CK804 at 0xd2003000, irq 10
