Question Need Help Getting Joystick to Work in SNES9X

I tried putting in snes9x -joydevX /dev/input/js0 *.smc as it says on the options screen, but all that does is bring up the options again. How can I configure my joystick correctly? And am I pointing it to the right place?

I am using SUSE 9.1 Personal.

Go get the snes9express. Its a graphical front end, and it helps you configure everything from networking 2 player games, to controller pads.
