For Windows based games, yes, you need to run Wine. Try to search around (Google etc) to find instructions for configuring each particular game. Some games (mostly brand new ones) don't run even with Wine.

There are plenty of games written natively for Linux, you need to search for a particular category. E.g. I like strategy games, and in that category I recommend Freeciv (a civilisation clone). There are reasonable FPS games around too.

Which distro do you use? You can probably find some using your package manager.

Fedora has a tool called Yum (and a graphical front-end called YumEx I think).

From the command line you can do things like:
Code:
#yum search arcade
You might be you'll get the lot by
Code:
#yum search game

The games you mentioned need to be purchased legally before playing them on any computer.
What we are talking about, is software that lets you run such games on Linux operating system because these games were made only with Windows in mind.
Using Wine or Cedega, you can run some games made for Windows initially.
There are however other games, that you can install on Linux without any additional software.

But you cannot run those games you have installed in your windows partition through "wine".
You would need to reinstall them in linux - using wine.
Some of them will probably work - but some might not.
On their website wine has some statistics on what games are known to work - if you don't find yours there that is no sure sign that it won't work - just that nobody reported on the rate of success...

I can run Quake, Quake2, Halflife and Blue Shift trough wine - but have never tried any others (except Doom - which also works).

There are ports for most IDsoft games - including Doom3 - so there's a native installer.
