how to get 3d acceleration with ati drivers ?

Hi. I have a really big problem, and i'm not the only one. The only thing that stops me from format my laptop and have only linux installed instead of dual boot with win xp are games. Many people thinks the same. I've seen a friend of mine playing all of his games in linux ( nvidia 5900, p4 2.8 , 1 Ghz Ram, Mdk 9.2 ) , and i was surprized how easy was to install nvidia drivers.
In my case, i have a laptop ( p4 3.06 Mobile, 512 Ram, Ati Radeom 9000 Mobile, Mdk 9.2 ) and its a huge problem to install ati drivers . I must have 3d support to play warcraft III, AAO, Ut, UT 2k4 , etc ... Please someone help me to find some way to install 3d up to date drivers in my laptop. I would be very greatfull and gappy if someone help me.

What steps have you even taken to try to get the ATI drivers installed?
Have you gone to the ATI website and downloaded the driver?

i have ati 9600 pro , the thing that i did to make 3d acc. work is to download the new ati drivers and install them then :

As root run the following commands:

cd /lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod
./make.sh
cd /lib/modules/fglrx
./make_install.sh
fglrxconfig

After completing your X configuration using fglrxconfig, press CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE to restart X.
