There are many programs to download files and the choice depends on where the files are stored and which credentials do you need to connect to the server that hosts the files. Please provide details about what you're trying to download, from where and what problems do you encounter exactly.

Hey, I know this is a little late but if you are just looking for games on linux I would suggest using steam. Valve is working on building their linux game library and there are some good titles available through them. You can get great deals through them and also through <moderated> although not every game they sell will not all work for linux.

As for programs, using wine along with playonlinux makes for a good way to install a variety of games. Wine will let you install a lot of different windows applications (you need to have the install file or installation disk). Playonlinux is an easy way to install games that are known to work on linux. <moderated> is a good place that has a lot of games that can be used through wine and playonlinux although they don't all work and might take some research before purchase.

There are other programs that can be used to set up games on a linux machine but these are the only ones I used extensively. Hope this is what you were looking for.

This online game site has a Linux client: http://www.desura.com/

I don't play (my gaming is pretty much limited to card and puzzle games), but a member of my LUG really liked the site and presented about it at a meeting once.
