how do I get the duke nukem original CDs to work with eduke32

I have eduke32 up and running with shareware but I have the registered cd version and would rather run that than the shareware as well as install later extra levels that I have
I think the installation under dosemu worked ( duke atomic)
but duke crashes dosemu
I also have the original CDs of duke nuclear winter
and duke Caribbean life's a beach

Some of those things work surprisingly well in wine, which is forgiving of such animals.

I am also a fan of Duke Nukem...

This is where I started:
http://forums.duke4.net/forum/26-everything-eduke32/

I had to install WINE from the WINE repos. Winetricks and PlayOnLinux I got from Software Manager (on Linux Mint).

All the best!

ROTFL.
So you have a source port of Duke Nukem and want to play that?

Play it, then. When it craps out, log the error, post it, do your best to debug it and amuse us with the results. You could try emailing the maintainer, but if I had written it I'd probably change my email.

You need to understand when Duke Nukem was written, PCs were very different internally, being compatible with the original 1980s POS that was such a hit.In the early 2000s the last of that nonsense was left behind, and the pc was freed up to be the animal it is today. If this port wasn't written in the last 15 years it's dead.

afaics it's totally legit FOSS, GPL'd, builds on Linux.

Isn't it just a matter of copying DUKE3D.GRP and DUKE.RTS (from the installation you did using DosEMU) into ~/.eduke32?

That's exactly what I was thinking too - I looked at the FAQ for eduke32 and it seems that is what you do to get your legit copy using this engine.
