did it work on virtualbox windows 10 or not ? i just wanna play singleplayer.
I was running Diablo 2 on Slackware 14.2 , I was running on Devuan - try to use wine-staging not stable. I used to play using qjoypad - it allows to play Diablo 2 with gamepad.
Edit: Go to wine website.*They should have there instructions how to install wine-staging on Arch. In my case on Devuan I had to add repo - now I got wine updates from that repo (Devuan is Debian without systemd).

on the wine website they just have downloads for android, ubuntu, debian, fedora, macOS,SUSE,Slackware,FreeBSD, not for arch. i wanna run it on linux mint, any chance?
Have you checked the Mint software repositories for wine? Pretty sure wine is there. Unless the included version isn't new enough but Diablo II is ancient in terms of game life and should run fine with whatever version of wine is included in the Mint software repositories I should think.
Linux Mint is on top of Ubuntu and Debian - perhaps try one these packages - I would start with Ubuntu version of wine. Ask here on Mint forum. I am sure someone will help you. I have neither Ubuntu nor Mint.
Codeweavers Crossover is a commercial packaging of wine which greatly simplifies running windows programs under wine. According to their compatibility page for Diablo II, the game has a 4 star rating out of 5 stars:
You can download the free trial version of crossover and install Diablo II and see how it runs. If it runs acceptably, you know it's wine compatible. You can either pay for Crossover($39-$59) or try and install wine and configure it your self to run Diablo II. You should note that the Codeweavers devs are also heavily involved in wine development so paying them is also supporting wine.
Another free option is PlayOnLinux which also aims to make wine configuration easier:
To the contrary, I used to run Diablo II very successfully under Wine back in ...2006 ish, including Battle.net. IIRC you had to install some windows libraries and fonts, which winetricks helps with, and also, there used to be a massive problem with the copy protection - what I did in the end (Reminder: I had the game legally - after all, you still needed a valid CD key to get on battle.net so the protection was superfluous), was write a script that replaced the game executable with a crack, waited a couple second, then copied the original executable back so it would hash correctly when the protection was checking.

yup, i used to run D2 at us-east server with wine , it stopped working maybe a year (not sure when it was) a go, blizzard did some updates, and D2 didnt work anymore online with linux. (i suspect that it had something to do with public dupe and hybrid runewords.) i have tried different distros and tested nearly all howto's. nothing worked, now i have my d2's on a virtualbox win 10 guest.
