Age of Empires

I have Age of Empires, the original, and I tried installing it using Wine the other day, and the autorun screen was like solid black except for the horses walking across and I was wondering. Is this an issue with just this application? This "specific" game isn't listed on the compatability list, however Age of Empires 1 Rise of Rome is listed. Has anybody played Unreal Tournament (part 1) using Wine? If so how does it run?

Hello Dudeman

I didnt try to use the AoE in linux, but I've used the Unreal Tournament 1 with Wine. Mandrake 9.x in a 233 MMX, 128 MB ram and a Trident 9440!! and it worked well !! It worked better than in windows.
So try it your self, it's very easy to make it work

I tried to install AoE aswell (Gold edition) and I had the same problem.

Do you use Debian packages? I wanted to try Wine from their CVS however I didn't bother getting it and compiling it... It's a laptop and when I compile anything it goes really hot

http://www.winehq.com/site/download

I got my wine downloads from there including the debug symbols, about 60 ish MB total to download. They have Mandrake packages there.

I guess I can ask some of the Wine people on IRC. Will post a reply if I find anything useful
