Thumbs down Packages That Need To Be Downld'd

I am trying out Linux from Scratch. I reached the part where a lot of packges have to be downloaded and at that point my frustration had built up. Why? Because some files/packages are none existent on the links provided.

My question is: Is there a site/link where I can download ALL the packages in one go?

Ummm....
That's not even the frustrating part.
I thought they used to have a large archive file of the packages but I don't see one now with a quick check. Since I was on dial up when I first did LFS I did individual packages anyway.
Which packages are you having problems downloading? A google search by package name may also direct you to the download site if the links are indeed incorrect.
Good Luck when you do get to the frustrating part of building the packages.

The LFS websit did have the packages for download at one time, but took them down because of bandwidth concerns, or something to that effect.

You can either google for each package, or you can try freshmeat.net and search there. Freshmeat has never failed me when looking for a package yet (but I haven't downloaded them all individually).

You might want to try Gentoo mirrors. Just go into the distfiles directory. Gentoo is not LFS, but it does compile EVERYTHING from source files. And they also use bz2 compression instead of gzip, so the files are even smaller.

http://www.gentoo.org/main/en/mirrors.xml

That page has a list of gentoo mirrors worldwide. My personal favorite is the GaTech mirror, it maxes out my bandwidth.

Anyways, the gentoo mirrors should have EVERY file you could possiblly need to build a linux system.

The files will be in the distfiles folder of any gentoo mirror.

"For bandwidth reasons, the lfs-packages tarball is no longer available. This is subject to change, but for now, packages can be downloaded in bulk via a wget script"

they do have a list you can use with wget...

see the faq:
