Unhappy LFS: Linux 2.6.x Error: Checkbin: "Too old version of binutils"

Hi,

I am using LFS-CVS-2004-06-02 on my new ibook. Nearly done, now I am about to install Linux-2.6.6 as the book told me (patching, make mrproper, make menuconfig, etc).

make

CC bla
CHK bla
CC bla
bla, someting like this:
*** 2.6 kernels no longer buildcorrectly with old versions of binutils.
*** Please upgrade your binutils to 2.12.1 or newer
make: *** [checkbin] Error 1

But I´ve installed binutils 2.15.x.? like the book told me

I heard it has to do something with the PATH-variale. But my $PATH=/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin

I just dont know how to fix it or what i did wrong.

[edit]

So nobody knows whats wrong with my Binutils.
I found this googling:

http://www.google.de/linux?hl=de&ie=...le-Suche&meta=

But I have no idea what do do with that!

THX

It seems that nobody knows the answer. Perhaps it is a BUG?

Can anybody give me a hint what to do now. (e.g. Reporting BUG, installing another version of binutils, where to search for the problem in the source code, ...?)

Again here is the output of make:

CC arch/ppc/kernel/asm-offsets.s
CHK include/asm-ppc/offsets.h
UPD include/asm-ppc/offsets.h
make [1]: 'arch/ppc/kernel/asm-offsets.s' is up to date
*** 2.6 kernel no longer buildcorrectly wiht old version of binutils.
*** Please upgrade your binutils to 2.12.1 or newer
make: *** [checkbin] Error 1

-------

ls -l /usr/include/asm/offsets.h
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 666 Jun 10 10:10 /usr/include/asm/offsets.h
The file exists!
And the file arch/ppc/linux/asm-ppc/offsets.c in the source-dir exists too!

What I am trying now is to install binutils 2.14.*.

(It's problably the wrong forum I posted this message)

My guess is you made a mistake along the way somewhere, perhaps adjusting the linker to lock in glibc? I would just start again if I were you.

OK!

I think that I did everything right.

echo "main(){}" > dummy.c
gcc dummy.c
readelf -l a.out | grep interpreter
... /lib/ld.so.1

I think everyting with the linker is right.

My last try to save this LFS on my ibook is the linux-2.4 kernel. If it works, I can find the problem
-or-
Reinstall LFS
(Because i am a noob in bug-tracking, ) I save my LFS and try it again (the 6th or 7th time)

Thanks for the reply. Atleast someone did say anything.

I ran across these types of errors with LFS 5.0
I would just edit the "Makefile" and make sure that the script found the $PATH it was looking for ----------
