How to create a bootable cd (newworld (ppc))

Hi,

I want to create a small linux dist (for education purpose), and it will be booting from a cd. It should run on a ppc (newworld).

I have tried some different ways to get the cd booting, I have even copied everything from the knoopix.iso file(for ppc) and paste it into a dir and burn it. But even if I press the 'C' button it won't boot. (but is I just brun the knoppix.iso file it will work :S )

I'm not sure but I have heard something like the kernel most begin at the first byte of the cd or similar. But I have none idea how to do that. What application should I use?

What are the computer first looking at in the cd, the /BOOT dir or something else? What files do it demands, and where should it be located?
If I get it up booting, the rest will be a lot easier

Thanks in advance
-Simon

PS.
I'm using MacOS X 10.3 for the moment, so the best would be if any wierd apps that is need are ported. (But I can if neccery use a ordinary linux dist).
DS.

PPC? Does Knoppix have a PPC version? Look into Yellow Dog Linux.

Edit: There is an alpha version of PPC knoppix:
http://www.bouissou.net/knoppix-mib/...oppix-Mib.html

You can look at this too:
http://www.knoppix.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3328

Bootable cds boot by having an image of a bootable floppy on them. If you have a bootable floppy, you can copy it to file and make a bootable cd out of it.

Yes, but I haven't found anything about it on there homepage, I haven't find the source code either
But it is located here:
http://debian.tu-bs.de/knoppix/powerPC/

Have asked some people in the #yellowdog at freenode, but none really knows And I found nothing about it on their site.

[EDIT]
I haven't any floopy driver.
And how do I create the floopy image?
dd if=/dev/floppy of=imagefile bs=1024 count=size
or any other way?
Should the image be in the root dir of the cd, and what should it be named as?

What should a bootable floppy contain to be loaded on a newworld machine.

On x86 it looks like that you only do this: <-- I don't know if it works on x86, but it doesn't work on ppc

dd if=vmlinuz of=boot.img bs=1024 count=<something>
mkisofs -pad -o boot.img -R -o /tmp/cd.iso boot.img

But on newworld machines you have to include yaboot and system.map, but I dont know how I should do that. Someone have do done this at least once.

Look at a PPC live cd (like the alpha knoppix). You should find the image of the floppy it used on there. Mount it:
mount /file.img /mountpoint -o loop
You can edit the files on it to adapt it to your own needs.
