how important is perl in LFS

how important is perl in LFS?

i am building from fedora core 2 sources, so not following the book properly and recieved errors compiling perl first time, so left it out figuring i could fix it later with either a binary rpm or by figuring out why it would not compile.

Is this possible, or will i have to start all over again? (im about to make check glibc in chapter 6 installing basic system software)

ok thanks. My problem is that i have intermitant internet access on a 56k line, so downloading large files is a problem. I followed instructions where possible, but packages like perl, glibc, gcc, binutils etc will take forever to download, and it seems like the sources on the fedora core 2 dvd that versions differ from lfs ones needed are the really big ones,

sigh,

on the bright side ill have more time to read lq while downloading.
