Error in section 5.7, glibc-2.8-20080929 build

I'm building this on Fedora 5. I get this error about one minute after running 'make'. I followed the directions to the letter--twice, with the same result. These are the last six lines before returning me to the prompt. Thanks for any help.

:1: error: bad value (native) for -mtune= switch
make[2]: *** [/mnt/lfs/sources/glibc-build/tcb-offsets.h] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory '/mnt/lfs/sources/glibc-2.8-20080929/csu'
make[1]: *** [csu/subdir_lib] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory '/mnt/lfs/sources/glibc-2.8-20080929'
make: *** [all] Error 2

What is your PATH variable set to as the lfs user?
Code:
echo $PATH
Looks like you might be trying to use the host gcc which is, I think, version 4.1.X on Fedora 5. Version 4.1.X doesn't recognize -mtune=native.

/usr/kerberos/sbin:/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/sbin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/root/bin

According to section 4.4 it should be /tools/bin:/bin:/usr/bin. I've switched back and forth between users lfs and root several times, so no telling what permissions and environment I've inadvertently set up. I believe I'm supposed to be lfs during the build process. It's still early so is probably a good time to start over fresh. Thanks.

Yes, you're definitely using the host system gcc instead of the one in tools. No need to start over. Just login as lfs
Code:
su - lfs
Then check your environment. If it's not what it's supposed to be per section 4.4, follow the instructions in section 4.4. That should get it for you.
