Hi, I understand removing the source directory but not sure why I would remove the build directory, if someone could help me understand this, I would appreaciate it.

after you do "make install", the built files(with other files) are copied to a different location and installed on your system for all users to use.
for example, most binary executable files are copied to "/usr/bin/<file>" and the man pages files are copied to "/usr/share/man/...".
the exact location changes from distribution to distribution(my examples are for openSUSE) but they always should be outside your home directory.
btw, that's why you need root permissions to do "make install" and why you don't need root permissions to do "./configure" and "make".
