Can't install RealPlayer
I've finished LFS 6.0, and all that I wanted from BLFS 6.0. However, when I try to install RealPlayer (for web content) I get the following error:
Code:
./realplay.bin: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5: version `GLIBCPP_3.2' not found (required by ./realplay.bin)
./realplay.bin: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5: version `CXXABI_1.2' not found (required by ./realplay.bin)
I noticed that the library it is looking for is .so.5 , so I made a link from .so.5 and pointed it to .so.6
But I still get this error. Did something go wrong in my GCC compile? I don't remember the tests failing, but, I have been known to be wrong.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to fix this? TIA
im guessing you installed gcc-3.4.*, as lfs 6.0 specifies.
there is a possibility that the realplayer doesn't like your version of gcc.
what realplayer version are you trying to run?
also, do you have the following in your envirnomet: HELIX_LIBS=/wherever/your/realplayer/is/installed
try
Code:
echo $HELIX_LIBS
I use gcc-3.3.5 to avoid these problems as too many programmers still haven't learned that they should conform to standards.
But thats just me..Some other LUG members laugh at my ancient gcc

No, I don't have the HELIX_LIBS evironment variable set. I can't even get the program to install so I don't have anywhere to point the environment variable. I've tried compiling helix player from source, AND trying to install RealPlayer10Gold.bin. Neither one will complete.
I wouldn't have a problem with installing another compiler version, but, how do you know which patches, etc? And, since the error mentioned GlibCPP-3.2, wouldn't 3.2 be a better version, or am I "barking up the wrong tree"?
I'm using FC5, and i've been getting the same issue, both libraries missing.
I'm a complete idiot and I will probably get confused by most instructions unless they're spelled out and going step by step for me. Please if anyone could help me with this i'd be much appreciated.
Thanks in advanced
