backing up

Hi guys. I have finally completed the LFS 5.1.1 book after a few weeks of hard work. Now I am going to continue with BLFS. But before that, I would like to make a backup of the fresh installation now. What is the best/easiest way to do this? Can I just tar them up straight?

Thanks.
