I have some questions , regarding user account in RHEL,

1.Is an inactive user means( usemod -f), is that user account is disabled? I want a user account be there, but I
want him to do nothing there? how to do that?

2. How can I make a new user , to be prompted to set his password , when the very first time he logs in?

3. How can I setup warning messages of expiry date , for a user? Or is it warns by itself when the expiry date approaches?

1) Use -l, not -f as an option to passwd

2) Don't know - I'm sure you could.

3) use -w option to passwd

You can try

Code:

chage -d 0 user

Change user as a valid user name. This will force the user to set a New Password upon the first login.
