Does anyone know how I could get samba to convert a print job to a pdf document, then automatically print it to a printer?
The pdf files must also be saved on a public folder do I suspect that I could do something like a $HOME/pdfprint with the pdfprint folder as a link to a public shared folder type nfs.

Samba is a connection protocol...it won't do conversions. The only thing you could possibly do, is set up a print-to-pdf printer in CUPS, and share it to Samba, having a default folder set.
