Redhat AS 4 - Boot problem after up2date

Hey fellas, I did an up2date on an HP DL580 and rebooted. At reboot the box hangs at Initializing hardware... I can ctrl C and break out of it then the box proceeds to boot..after many timeouts and eventually mounts everything in read only file system. I mean a long time 40 minutes or so.

Then I have to mount -o remount,rw / to get the fs back to writable. This problem now happens with old kernels as well.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Ok, this box has an HP EML 245e san attached tape library. When the box rebooted after an up2date is hosed the qla* fiber HBA driver. The qla driver on install compiles against the running kernel. When the box came backup it got confused trying to load the old qla driver. I ripped out the old qla driver, recompiled and the box came up.

Solved.
