Red Hat 5 (ES) problem on VMWare ESX 2.5
I'm attempting to install RH Enterprise Server 5 on VMware ESX Server 2.5.0 build-11548.
After initial troubles with Red Hat not recognising the virtual disk, I'm using the "vmxlsilogic" SCSI virtual device as RH apparently doesn't work well with the "vmxbuslogic" option.
We have RHEL ES3, SuSE8, SuSE10 and Windows VMs running fine.
RHEL ES5, however seems to be unbearably sluggish on the install--taking as long as 5 hours to get through the boot sequence, config, package selection, and then the actual installation.
After the installation, the ES5 VM can take up to an hour to boot.
I've done the install several times, deleting the virtual disk each time, and starting completely fresh.
The VMWare server is an HP Proliant DL380 G3, dual proc, 12GB of RAM, 104GB drive space.
The VM I've made for Red Hat ES5 is alotted 10GB of virtual disk space in persistent mode, and a scant 524MB ram (we don't need much for the VMs), "vmxlsilogic" SCSI mode.
Has anyone seen anything similar? Any thoughts?
