Kernel compilation problem


Asslam 0 alikum!!!

I am trying to compile kernel 2.6.0 on RHEL 3 having kernel 2.4.21-9

I did all the step as described by

New kernal has compiled and succeffully boots

but network card does not activate when I try to do

#service network restart

it gives message



modproble: QM_MODULS: Funcation not implemented

8139too device eth0 does not seem to to present , delaying initialization. [Failed]


or when I try do lsmod it give same message

modproble: QM_MODULS: Funcation not implemented

Plz tell why it is being so

You have to add in support for your network card. So go back to /user/src/linux* and then do make menuconfig and go to device drivers, then network, then 10 bit --> then find your nic and select it and recomiple it and reboot

Did you enable loadable module support when you compiled your kernel? Also, if I remember correctly, you may need an updated version of the modutils or mod-init-tools package (the one the contains modprobe and lsmod, etc) to go from a 2.4 kernel to a 2.6 kernel.
