Exclamation fstab and lvm

Yesterday I created some logical volumes for my oracle dba. I updated the fstab file and went to reboot and test. However I forgot one important step of creating the file systems. During the boot process the errors were flying for these 4 new filesystems that had not been created so I easily enough created them in the maintenance mode. My issue at this point is that I have typo in the /dev directory with one of the vol group names so I created it with the typo in place but now in the fstab it is screaming and I can't seem to edit in the maintenance mode to either comment out this device or even change the name.

I would prefer to comment it out for now and backup and recreate it with the proper name.

I am in a crazy loop of finding this device being corupt and entering maintenance mode and not being able to edit the fstab exiting out and rebooting ......

Is there a way that I can comment this out?

in maintenance mode:
Code:
mount -o remount,rw /
to mount the root filesystem read-write so that you may edit fstab

Next time, after you add the fstab entries just mount the filesystems from the command line. That would have caught this problem without the headache.

Just to be crystal clear here, don't try renaming the device. If you really can't live with the typo, remove it through the lvm2 facilities and recreate it.

And a friendly reminder: document the steps you go through so that you don't have to make these same mistakes again.

Thank you so much. I have burned that into my brain for future reference and use.

If the installed disks really have issues, you can always grab the Installation DVD/CD, boot off that and enter

linux rescue

at the text prompt. That boots you off the DVD and you can then manually mount/edit any other drive.
