I am trying to migrate existing linux rhel4 server from a desktop pc with an ide Hdd and single processor to a dell power server with sata hot plugable Hdd and smp processors!

I copied all the partitions and even installed grub on the new sata Hdd...
while booting i am getting the following error message:

>Mounting root filesystem
>Mount: error 6 mounting ext3
>Mount: error 2 mounting none
>Switching to new root
>switchroot: mount failed: 22
>umount /initrd/dev failed: 2
>Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

I am using RHEL 4.0 update 4

please give ur valuable suggestions....

With the hardware being that different I probably would have done a clean base install of RHEL on the new server, then copied the package list from the old server to the new one to duplicate the install..

Once the package set matched, copy over your data and configuration files..

That is how I would approach that issue..
