Hello folks,

I'm a amin (with a strong *nix base but new to clustering) in my company and we are planning to test clustering for our browser based Application (JAVA).

We have 76 days deadline(still alot of time)

This is our plan of action. Initially there will be only these many servers later we will add more.:

Apache Http Server - For static content - 1 Server

APache Tomcat - For dynamic contents and JSP - 2 Servers

JBoss - Application Server - 3 servers

Oracle 10G - Database - 1 server

OS - Redhat Enterprise Linux 4 WS

We are aiming for Load balancing in this case.

I'm working with my senior Java programmer who has tested HTTP + Tomcat + workers.properties

Any tips from those who have clustered similar setup?

I'm not sure if this is what you want...but you *could* install a kernel with the openMosix patch. The patch will allow your boxen on your LAN to share processes transparently, effectively turning your boxen into a huge SMP.

How about UltraMonkey (Linux Virtual Server)?

If you are using Oracle then you should (obliged to) go with Oracle supported software. In your case the OS should be Red Hat (or Suse, White Box, etc) but check with http://metalink.oracle.com (navigate to the Certify tab) for specific versions. They'll also have soltuions geared up for what you've mentioned but this will depend on the budget. Assuming this is a production system it's best to ensure that the tech. stack is supported.

There are other solutions though, for example Mysql with Openmosix and Apache etc
