Help with Arcom Elan104-NC

Hi,

I'm trying to get linux running on an Arcon Elan104-NC.
It is a PC-compatible processor board with a 100-MHz AMD Elan SC400 486SX 16M ram and 8M flash disc. I have a 8Gb Compact flash IDE unit available.
I want to run ssh nano, ftp and a web server on it. I also want to write apps for data collection through the GPIO.

My problem is which embbedded linux route to take.

I've tried a few but I always run into problems building the basic linux system such as compiler errors and configuration errors.

Is there an open source system already configured for this board that can be built on a Debian (Lenny) system. This way I will have a starting point onwhich to build.

My background is hardware and embedded applications on microcontrollers.

Thanks in advance
