At the start


Hi all

what exactly happens in the linux based board when power is turned on .

which linux files are put to run in case of suse linux for example , or any other linux version ?

Hi elico

I don't know quite exactly what you mean, but let me try explain:

1. computer power on -> BIOS runs through to get the bootable drive location
2. bootable drive found, search/execute boot code at the MBR on the drive (can be hard disk, USB, CD/DVD ROM...)
3. linux has BOOT loader code at MBR on the drive to start GRUB (or whichever bootloader, could be an old LILO, or new GRUB 2)
4. GRUB is configured to load the Linux kernel and then it loads whatever is configured to run on the system (network, display, ...)

I hope it's what you were asking for.
