Wireless woes....
Hi there,
I'm a complete newbie to this wireless trend, but due to splitting up with my wife i have had to move house where wireless is the only option (it's rented) anyways, i have decided to change my distribution as i can't see any way i can get wireless to work with arch linux without first connecting a wire, which i can't do.
So I decided upon Gentoo, but after messing about with it for 2 days, searching forums etc... i am unable to get it onto the internet.
Therefore i'm at a bit of a crossroads, i need a linux distribution that works with wireless easily this weekend as all my personal files are held on a linux drive and i can only access the internet through windows, a horrible and frustrating situtation i think you'll agree. But i want a small Arch / Gentoo type of distribution.

right, i think i'll give vector linux a go, it appears to mention wireless networking in the documentation hopefully that will work so i can look at putting Arch or Gentoo onto my second machine before ditching Vector and replacing it with either arch or gentoo on the main one when i have learned a bit more about this strange (to me) technology.
What kind of problems were you having with Arch and wireless? It's worked well me, other than networkmanager giving me some problems the last couple of days since my most recent update.
Assuming my problem isn't a general issue with networkmanager and wireless I'd recommend using that to connect, since it seems to do a pretty good job of detecting networks without needing much configuration at all. If you're interested in making a go with Arch with this, the wiki page is real helpful.
This is the distro I use and recommend, Why because it works right out of the box. No need to configure Everything, everything just works. It also comes as a 1 CD install that is a live CD that you can install later if you wish.
