I finally succeeded in getting most of the tings I wanted running in Ubuntu. Thanks a lot guys. Using the terminal is no easy task even though I learned a lot in the process.
Then I decided to give Mint a try which I installed using Wint4win by clicking the bootable DVD burnt from the ISO image I had previously downloaded. However, upon reboot, I never saw the dual-boot screen and went directly to Windows 7. Did I not install Mint properly?

I use mint ,but I don't run windows anymore period...
I have mint, Ubuntu as a dual boot...
I'm headed towards home .. when I get there I don't know... I headed for Debian, Arch Linux and then Slackware and Linux from scratch.... Done the Sabayon route pretty easy ,but kind of limited by packages and updating is a bit more of a task... Take it slow no real rush to learn over night...
Just a note for a first time user... If you use limewire on windows.. Your going to use Frostwire in linux... What becames a problem is that by downloading all these files the hard drive becomes fragmented so loading mint takes about extra minute...
Its stable ,but the hard drive takes longer to seek out program files...
To load the operating system...
Look if you make a mistake reload the OS... I know it seems like alot to do, but it will teach you a great many things... Eventually you'll be giving out advice to others ...

Is there no disk defragmenter in Linux?
For some reason, Mint is definitely not as snappy as Windows 7 on my laptop...Does anyone know why?
