Which distro should I use?

I have been using Ubuntu for about a year and a half on my laptop (my servers ran Debian way before that), and I am getting tired of the constant instability and lack of respect toward the user's wishes (Ubuntu downloaded and installed the proprietary 'wl' driver from Broadcom before I even opened an application on the first boot after the install. I immediately removed it and installed b43 from source).

I have been considering Debian and Arch as my main distros to consider, anybody got any input?

Go for debian, since you know it and used it before.
