What is the best version of Linux for me

Hello, I am pretty new to Linux but I am hoping to use it for an old computer that I have.

I just got an old Compaq Presario PC with a Pentium 2 processor, 64mb of ram, and a 30gb hard drive. It came with Windows 98 on it.

I would like to install a Linux Distribution on it but I don't know which on will work well with only 64mb of memory.

The only applications that I really need to run are Firefox and Thunderbird.

I could leave Windows 98 on the computer but I am worried about the security problems of being on the web with such an old version of Windows.

Also I wouldn't mind an Operating System that runs a little faster.

Thanks for any input.

Upgrade the RAM as much as you can.
You can try the Damn Small Linux live CD, Vector Linux (5.8 Gold on 128 RAM), or Xubuntu.
Maybe Deli Linux if you can't upgrade.

Hi TomSwift. I don't know the exact minimum specs of them, but to suit your needs it might be worth checking out:

Damn Small Linux
Puppy Linux
or
Feather Linux
(no particular order)

All are designed to run very light-weight on systems that would probably choke and die running most modern OS's.

As far as I know all three have the option of running Firefox and Thunderbird (most of them come with Firefox installed as the default browser).

Have a look and hopefully you'll find something there you can use.

Cool

Please see here...http://www.distrowatch.com/ Then choose "antiX MEPIS 6.5". It is designed for "older systems".
