Wanna try this: Bayanihan Linux desktop?

Hi everybody!

I'm sure many of you have a choice or a favorite distro now that you’ve been using browsing LQ and sending posts or creating threads.

This is just an invitation to try this Filipino developed Linux desktop called Bayanihan Linux. The word bayanihan traced back to an old Filipino custom or traditions of helping a neighbor’s house (made of lighter bamboos and nipa or anahaw leaves as roof) to physically move or relocate to a new place. This is the true spirit of Linux and open source – helping and cooperation.

So far their latest release is version 3.0 and it can be downloaded from www.bayanihan.gov.ph.

Please post your first experience (review) in LQ with this distro. This will help the developers improved their work further.

Thanks!

yes - when I go there, I get: "This site is currently undergoing maintenance. We apologize for the inconvenience." Yes, the link to download seems to be available, but I'm not going to download a full CD without learning something about it first...

About Bayanihan Linux
Bayanihan Linux is a complete open source-based desktop solution for office and school use. It is a package that includes an operating system, a word processor, spreadsheet program, presentation software, email facility, an internet browser, and a graphics editor. This complete system is packaged in a single easy-to-install CD. The word "Bayanihan" relates to a Filipino tradition where people in a community help their neighbour in physically moving their house to a different place.

The website still displays the "down for maintenance" message. Just my 2 cents but this is not the best first impression you could make if you are looking to attract new users. You may want to get the main website squared away first. Good luck with it, in any case -- J.W

As of Sept 2, the site *still* displays the "down for maintenance" message, even though the problem was reported a full week ago.

Either the site admin for this distro does not consider situation to be important, or the distro is not ready for release at all. Sorry, but IMO neither of these conditions are good, and this project needs some major work if it expects to be taken seriously. -- J.W.

Hi bayanihan!

Maybe you can try to email baterya. Coz I incidentally overlooked his reply due to my busy skeds. I can't help him though, because my desktop now is fully burdened already with 3 OS and I have no room left to partition for Bayanihan.

Tnx!

Maybe you need to add more bandwidth. Downloading is too slow and takes long hours to complete. This could be a deterrent as it was with me.

FreeBSD 5.3 averages only 2 hours for me to completely download each (3) iso.
