Void Linux: no sound in OpenMW

I'm running Void Linux, using Alsa for all audio. Void's OpenMW recently had an update. Since then, I can't get sound out of it. Would rather not have to start using Pulseaudio just for the sake of one program. Can anyone (who is also running void Linux) advise please?

Thank you.

Compiled it myself. My Alsa outputs are now shown in the audio preferences and now I have sound. So, it's the way the Void package was built.

Bad show, Void. No cookie for you.

I have nothing to offer of course but I can't help think this is the future. As some distros diverge from the mainstream, or rather the mainstream changes from the established this will be a problem more and more for the smaller distros trying to "keep it real" so to speak. It would probably have worked just fine with pulse. I'm glad you got it working though. I've been waiting for stuff like this when some holdouts still won't switch to Systemd. As stuff get's written and moved to it it will be harder and harder to keep it going the other way.

Harbinger of darker times on the horizon for distros that don't toe the line?

^ What line?

Maintaining a distro's repositories is extremely hard work, growing year by year. I am not surprised that niche distros can't always keep up with it. There's no (secret) agenda behind that.

The line of moving with the tides. Actively avoiding things like Systemd, pulse, various others. As those become more integrated with programs the distros that avoid them will run into more and more problems. It's inevitable. Worse so for the smaller distros because as you just said they haven't the manpower to keep up.
