I am trying to install Vector Linux on an old machine I had lying around. I have the regular download version, and the SOHO version, both produce the following error:
ISOLINUX 1.62 2001-04-24 isolinux: Loading spec packet failed, trying to wing it...
isolinux: Found something at drive = 9F
isolinux: Failed to access CD-ROM device; boot failed.
I have checked both CD's for errors and they come up clean. To be sure I did an install on my other box and it went perfectly.
I tried booting SuSE, Mandrake, and RedHat with no problems, but they are all far too bulky. I would really like to get vector installed, any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.
I don't have any advice for you, I don't know the inner workings of Vectors install. Check out the vector forum though, the creators of both SOHO and vanilla 3.2 all read the board and help out regularly.
I took your advice and asked at their message board. I would have done so sooner but I didn't realise that the board was up and running - last time I visited nothing worked. I see they have also done some major updating to the site, looks more professional now.
Anyway it's a happy ending, following the admin's advice I tried a hard drive install and now everything is working nicely.
