I'm running SuSE 9.1 Personal, KDE 3.3. I browse the web using Konqueror but for on-line banking I have to use Netscape 4.78 since my bank will only accept either this or IE. On my earlier SuSE 8.2, the Netscape works fine. In 9.1 however I get an error when I try to input money amounts in fields on a form on the online banking site -
Warning
Name: textForm
Class: XmTextField
Character '£', not supported in font. Discarded.
I cannot then use the on-line banking site for any transactions into or out of my account.
I am assuming that there is some package missing from 9.1 Personal that would enable the site to work. It still works in 8.2.
Rather than using Netscape, have you tried using Firefox? I don't know if it will solve the problem but I'd suggest it is worth a shot. Good luck with it.
Also, in Konqueror there's an option to change your browser's identity, eg, you can indicate that you are IE 5.5 running on Windows XP, etc, even though you're really Konqueror running on Linux. How well this "cloaking" so to speak might work with your bank would be speculation at this stage. -- J.W.
Good idea. I tried using other identities on Konqueror last year and it didn't work. Firefox though does seem to work so it looks like I can at last get rid of Netscape.
You're welcome Donald, I'm glad the suggestion was worthwhile. Personally, I really like Firefox, and it has become my browser of choice. Aside from the clean design, I really love the fact that popups are blocked by default, and the Google search is built into the task bar. It's a great browser, and I'd recommend it to anyone. -- J.W.
