SuSE 8.2 Live Evaluation

Are there features that are disabled in terms of use for the Live Evaluation version?

I ask cause my modem and cd-writer are picked up at installation yet I cannot use them.

My modem is a Aztech 56K USB Modem and i have an AOpen 52/24/52 CD-Writer.

With the modem while I can see it under the control panel (or is that a Windows term?) I cannot query the modem. I will relay what the exact message is a bit later.

Can't open CD-RW

I am able to access the CD-RW drive (i can see the SuSE Live Evaluation files when I click on the drive). However when I press the eject button the drive the drive doesn't open. When I right click on the drive and use the eject function, the following error appears.

I suppect that because this is the Live Evaluation model it won't allow me to take the CD out of the CD-R drive.

Modem and Internet Connection
The modem I have is recognised as a SG Thompson. I downloaded a rpm file from the manufacturers website. However I am informed that the file var/lib/packages.rpm is read only (there might be another directory after lib). As root user I cannot change the current settings on the file. This also leads me to believe that there is restricted functionality as a result of this being a Live Evaluation version. The logfile from KInternet is included.

BTW, I can't remember where to find the Query Modem function. Could someone direct me as I would like to add that as well as the startup log.
