Simple distro for server?

I am going to set up a server but I am looking for a very minimul distribution of linux with very few features.
Basicaly all I want is a distro with some of the basic linux programs like grep, ifconfig, sys v init, and a compiler tool chain.
Does anyone know of a distro like this?

Thanks in advance,
WBuik

You can use Slackware, and tell the installer not to install X, KDE, xap, etc.

That'll give you a distro install with the cli rocking thru any type of compiling possible, plus a HUGE helpful forum here at LQ

Of course, a question like this will give you 500 different answers, but the compiling/development options in Slackware are 2nd to none, plus ROCK SOLID stability.

What is your memory constraint?

If you are very particular about packages, you can go in for GNU/Linux From Scratch.

Memory isn't really a constraint at all. Mabey LFS is a good way to go, because I am looking for more control over what's on it rather than a small footprint.
