restarting the x sever for red hat
i dont know if this question has already been ask but how do i restart the x server to modify the resolution. i run the os red hat linux

Try control + alt + backspace, then wait for X, if it won't come, type startx.

If I understand correctly what you are asking, if you log out, then log back in again your changes should take effect
