No emerge, no portage, no nothing...

I can't emerge anything, I can't rescue portage like explained here, everything related to Mozilla gets a segmentation fault, as well as OOo.

When I #emerge [anything] I get:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/emerge", line 6, in ?
import os,sys,portage,emergehelp,xpak,string,re,commands,time,threading,shutil,traceback
ImportError: No module named portage

Code:
# cd
# tar xzf /usr/portage/distfiles/Python-x.x.x.tgz #
cd Python-x.x.x
# ./configure --with-fpectl --infodir=/usr/share/info/ --mandir=/usr/share/man
# make
# make install prefix=/usr
# rm /usr/bin/python 2>/dev/null
# ln -s /usr/bin/python2 /usr/bin/python
When I went to compile 2.3.4...

Code:
gzip: stdin: unexpected end of file
tar: Unexpected EOF in archive
tar: Unexpected EOF in archive
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
Now what else can I do?

Have you looked at the gentoo forums?? I have seen that before and the fix. I have never ran into that one, yet. Give me time, I'm working on it.

edit: forgot this bit: http://forums.gentoo.org/

When did this happen? During an install? Post install?

Post post install...

I don't know what happened, but I loaded up firefox from my menu, then nothing happened, so I loaded it up from a terminal and got a segmentation fault.

So, I went to emerge Mozilla to see if that would work, then I get that.

[edit] Oh, and I will check the gentoo.org forums again, thanks.

[edit] It seems I've already posted about it over a week ago in the gentoo forums but got no replies.
