new to linux


Hey im new to linux can anyone give me a hand with choosin a distro to learn on?

Wade through this thread. Basically pick one. I'd stay away from Linux from Scratch for awhile.

It's your choise. I'd recommend non-commercial Debian GNU/Linux - www.debian.org

Get anything in the top-ten on the page hit ranking, and you cannot go wrong.

My current favorites:
Mepis (based on Ubuntu, but with KDE)
Kubuntu
PCLinuxOS

I use Redhat EL4 at work, and Fedora at home--but I am getting increasingly unhappy with the Gnome desktop. (the 3 above all use KDE)
