need help for installation of gcc compiler

When I type "gcc -v" in Mandrake 9.0 to check gcc version, it displays:
bash: gcc: command not found.

How can I install gcc compiler, and which file packages are needed in order to install gcc in Mandrake 9.0?

On your CD, look for the packages named "gcc-something.something.rpm"

Then, type rpm -ivh gcc-*.rpm

That should do it.

The GCC installed from Mandrake 9 CD(gcc-something.something.rpm) is the same as GCC installed from source code(gcc-version.tar.gz) if they are the same version(gcc-2.95)?
Can they both be used to compile kernel?

You didn't install the developmental packages? As root, command:
urpmi gcc
