The links below point to various stages of an experiment concerning a woman (Windows User) married to a Linux user who reluctantly agreed an experiment to try several Distros. What she wanted was something that did all the right things out of the box. Add software? Update software? Hack this and that? Something maybe to learn later. But for now it had to make the right intial impressions.
Just to say that PCLOS is temporarily off my computer and I'm relying on my Gentoo partition whilst experimenting on the spare one, at present I have Mandriva Limited Edition 2005 on it.
It won't recognise the internet connection, for some reason even though it is set up correctly. It has also set up networks I don't have. There are so many little niggles.
The only good thing I can say is that it has backported the KDE3.4 version of KDM, meaning a nicer login screen.
But why has Daffy Duck started taking LSD?
The idea was that PCLOS would return once version pre_9 hit the mirrors but I'm not sure I can wait much longer, even though Gentoo is so nice!
There is also a recent entry from Mr Devnet about some of the abuse aimed at her from fans of the distros she did not like. Some of it is a bit nasty! See it here:
At the end of the day, however, I have to say that what she did was about determining a suitable Linux distro for a particular type of user!
BTW Mandrake/iva has gone and PCLOS is back on my spare partition. It was just too unbearable. I have also used Partition Image on the PCLOS live CD to make a copy of my PCLOS partition so that should I b0rk it again, I'll have it back up in 7-8 minutes!
