dear Sir ,
i am planning to create a new Linux os, because linux is a free os,
How do i make money from the software...
If everybody could modify and re-distribute the software, there could be no profit from it..

well, anybody who want to try something *that* big, should know where to look for the answers... or at least do their own research first and ask later.
The best you could do is sell tech support, but it generally does not generate enough revenue to stay alive. Canonical has figured that out, I think.
You could create a Linux enterprise that ships with minimal bugs and support included, but in truth only RHEL has attained success in this way. Even Novell is having difficulties with SLED. And you would have to create an amazing distro.
Long story short, if you want to make money off software, program some virus scanner for Windoze.
At the moment you'd get easiest money from advertising I guess; write a nifty app for Android or iPhone for example, put some ads in and hope that some people install it. It's not a surefire way, but if you find a balance between your efforts, ad-caused irritation and coolness/usefulness (=> will to use) in the app, you might make something out of it. There are loads of people who only lose money in that, but there are apparently a few that actually get paid off. It's not something you should build your career on, though, because real jobs pay off better. There is no easy money nor free lunch.
