Looking for a new Distro - Any Suggestions?
I am looking to experemint with a different Distro than RedHat 7.3 (which I am using now)
7.3 seems to have too many quirks that I have had to fix.
I am looking for a good Distro to teach me how to use the terminal more often, as RedHat tries too much to make it everything GUI. I only have a small amount of Terminal knowledge so I want to be forced to use it more.
However, I still want to use Gnome or KDE as my main screen.
My Linux box is used mostly for Graphics, Multimedia, and the occasional games.
I am looking for a Distro that help give me the best results in that area.
One thing of note, I need a Distro that has XFree 4.2, since I have a Radeon 7500 card. I do have an old banshee card that I could use for installing enough to download and install 4.2. However, I only want to resort to that if you recommened a really good Distro that doesn't come with 4.2
I hope I made sense. Thanks.
I have noticed that Debian, Slackware, and Mandrake seem to be the most popular alternatives. Comments on those would be appreciated, but I am open to other Distros as well.

Slackware... ummm.. yeah.. Slackware. Slack is all about configuring by hand and no fancy GUI tools. Its great truly is.
Debian is another great one to try. Mandrake has more GUI tools than Redhat.

I would recommend Slackware as well. I haven't tried Debian, but from what I heard about it, it is good as well.
If you choose Slack, then wait for Slack 8.1 to come out. It should be awsome. Hopefully it should be out soon.

It sounds like you definitely need Slackware!!! If you're anything like me, you'll love it after GUI intensive distros like RedHat, SuSE and Caldera OpenLinux.

Slackware and Debian are sounding like the prime canidates.
I just want to make sure, both of them still allow KDE and Gnome, correct?
I do a lot of internet, and the GUI interface really helps in that regard.

The man who creates our wonderful Slackware is actually a KDE user from what I heard. You can run any desktop you want just as easily with Slack just like any other Linux distro. Slack usually comes with KDE, GNOME, WindowMaker, Enlightenment, Sawfish and few others.

Cool, thanks everybody.
I'm downloading Slack 8.0 and should be ready to install it tommorow. Can somebody tell me what to expect when installing it?
I will be doing a fresh install on my whole HD. Anything I should expect or watch for when installing?
Thanks.
